The device works perfectly if I power up the machine booting Linux (no Windows booted previously), and then I connect the MIDI keyboard. The problem is not related to firmware loading. Maybe that's where you're failing - the udev rule (or similar) isn't firingįor the device when it's discovered at bootup, only on a reconnect. In the end I needed to add "fxload" to my system, and a udev rule, then Was working, disconnect USB and reconnect in Linux: Lost power, no firmware,

It always worked if you booted Windows and then soft-booted into to Linux, asĬold PC power up and straight into Linux: No firmware, no work. It took a bit of fiddling about to get it to work at bootup AND on reconnect,īut it was all down to not having the correct udev rules and support to force the Yes it showed up on lsusb, but didn't actually WORK. I have a MIDI port device like that, that is a USB paperweight until it gets When I boot the Linux O/S, it works only when gets connected after the system is fully started.Īre you using udev? I've checked the dmesg contents and haven't noticed any suspicious messages.īelow I attach the device descriptors as reported by "lsusb -v" (with serial number partially masked for privacy reasons).īDeviceClass 0 (Defined at Interface level)
If the device is connected before the computer is switched on, it is recognized correctly, and reported by lsusb correctly, but it does not send any MIDI messages.

The device works perfectly with Windows 7 and Windows 8.1, however when I boot the Linux O/S, it works only when gets connected after the system is fully started. ** if you’ve never seen Patrick Stewart’s Extras appearance, do search it out, as it’s one of the funniest things ever.Last time I've bought a USB MIDI keyboard Miditech Garagekey Mini That will possibly be the test bed for the new CMS I’m planning to use, for this site. I’ve got some ideas for what I want it to become but I’m keeping that one close to my chest, for now.
Other than that, I do have another project I have in the planning phases. So I’m looking at other options, and will be trying those out. Whilst WP is fine to use, it’s an absolute croc of shite to develop for (in my personal opinion), with an archaic framework. I’m also planning to migrate this site away from WordPress, at some point. With the icing on the cake being the motorised faders (drooool). The X-Touch is also a fantastic control surface, for working with Ableton. I dare you to find better, at that price, or even near it. I paid something like £170 for the thing. The 1820 has enough inputs for all the outboard hardware, without breaking the bank. Also the sound quality on the UMC1820 and UMC204 is perfectly adequate. Whilst the TD-3 does a damn good impression of a TB-303. The Deepmind and Neutron are quality synths the former has some amazing sounding presets. But they have really upped their game, in recent years. Yes, there is a fair amount of Behringer gear in there.
I do plan to release something, in the not too distant future. Whilst Covid has been a bit of a shit for us all, it has given me the time to really get in to it. It’s been fantastically rewarding, learning the intricacies of the process, and actually getting some (almost) finished tracks together.

Given many of us have had very little social life lately, over the winter I took the opportunity to properly get back in to it, and splurged on a full copy of Ableton, with many plugins, a keyboard, audio monitors, and a few hardware synthesizers. I’ve also been DJing for a good 20 years. I was writing music on my Amiga with OctaMED, and we had Logic on the PC, when I was at school. Music has always been a major factor in my life.

Plus computing power has come on so much, you can do loads, just inside a PC. To be fair, we did have a makeshift studio, when I was younger, just not quite as well polished as this. Plus work has been pretty full on, the last couple of months.įor a start, I spent most of the winter building up a music studio something I’ve wanted to do since I was a kid. More that I’ve had a fair few other side projects I’ve been doing. It’s been a little while since I last posted on here.
